LCA & EPD

LCA & EPD

A life cycle assessment (LCA) evaluates a product or system’s environmental impact throughout its entire lifetime. This means that everything from raw material extraction, production and transport to end of life treatments is included in the calculation. Life cycle assessments make it possible to identify the processes and phases in a product or system’s lifetime that have the greatest or least environmental impact. The insight allows the producer to optimize the product and minimize its environmental footprint.

An environmental product declaration (EPD) is also based on a life cycle assessment but requires third party verification.

How can Transition help you?

We can support you in developing life cycle assessments (LCA) and environmental product declarations (EPD) for products and services, helping to map out their environmental impact across the entire lifetime. We handle everything from data collection and calculations to the preparation of reports and related documentation for both LCA and EPD.

We also conduct initial variant analyses, which can help assess the climate impact of different solutions during product development.

Life cycle assessments show environmental impacts throughout a product’s entire lifetime, from cradle to grave. An LCA can be used to identify key focus areas, evaluate business models, and serve as documentation for messages you want to use in your communication. We can assist you with everything from data collection and calculations to submission of documents and communication.

The carbon footprint of buildings is calculated based on EPDs. And EPD is a life cycle assessment prepared according to the ISO 14025, and many based on EN 15804+A2:2019 standard. As a manufacturer of building materials, the EPD will soon become an unavoidable competitive factor. We can assist you with everything from data collection to calculations and submission of documents. We can prepare both product specific and sector-wide EPDs.

A product carbon footprint is a simplified life cycle assessment that only shows the global warming potential measured in kg CO2 equivalents. This type of life cycle assessment is prepared according to the ISO 14067 standard. We handle data collection, calculations, and the preparation of reports and related documents
